I was always under the impression that if I call in and apply an SWU to my flight, and I do not clear with the SWU, that my certification stays on my file. I just spoke with an agent this morning that stated that was not the case. That if I applied my SWU to move higher on an upgrade list, that the SWU was then used - even if I did not clear into first class.
I'm not sure that I trust what that agent said because on my phone I'm showing as #3 on a list with 1 open seat on an M class ticket, with no seat assigned. But on delta.com, I'm #1 and #11. I figured that meant I was #1 to get a seat period, and #11 on the list with the other 'non-seated' passengers. She said, no, I was #1 on the upgrade list and #11 to get a seat. That makes little sense to me, so I'm questioning the using a PU503 and having it be marked as used if it doesn't clear.
Anyone know from recent first hand experience? Thanks!
