Booked award (NP bucket) as PM but does not say upgrade req -only N segment is req

Hi all!
I just booked a LAX-MSY-LAX award ticket for lowest mileage and the inbound leg is booked in "NP." The NP leg does not say upgrade requested. The outbound flight is booked in "N" class and has upgrade requested.

What's going on here? I know they are changing the booking codes to reflect those of AF/KL, but I thought award tickets are upgradeable (if available) for PM/DMs no matter how many miles we pony up.
