Before I begin, I am just going to give the "yadda, yadda, yadda" to those of you who claim that one should never check a bag. I get it. Whenever possible, I don't check. But there are times when that's just not possible. I'm still amazed at one poster who posted that he would buy whatever he needed, even if he was going to be somewhere for a month. Well, congrats. For some that's just not an option.
In December, I went to/from CPH. On both ends of my ticket, my luggage was lost. BOTH ends of the same reservation. Neither in CPH or when I was home could the agents tell me where the bags were. <sigh> Fastforward to today:
checking in MEM-CPH. I have my 2 bags and a third, which belongs to someone in CPH that loaned me a bag when mine was lost... I am not returning it to her. The agent tells me I owe $285 for the 3rd bag. I tried to explain the situation, that DL lost my bags on both ends of the same reservation and I'm returning the bag to it's owner in Denmark. Redcoat comes over and says "sorry, too bad". I realize we live in an entitlement society and so many think they are immune to the rules but, shouldn't there be a little flexibility here? I'm sure I will get bashed here from those who say "too bad, don't check bags". I am a DM and MM flier, who has never gone over excess baggage before. I realize the agent doesn't know that by just looking at me but I can't help but feel like there must be exceptions to the rule, no?
