I'm flying a single leg today from a city about to be hit by a snowstorm. I originally was scheduled to fly tomorrow, but got rescheduled for free to today to avoid the storm. When checking in online, I was asked about volunteering. Since I have nowhere to be til Friday afternoon, I figured I might give it a shot. Normal business travel rarely affords me the ability to volunteer, so I'll take the opportunities when they come. Having not done this in a long while (and possibly never on DL), I have a few questions:
-I bid at $50.00 (lowest available). It seems compensations is normally about $400. Is that in fact the case? This is a short flight (<1hr).
-With this storm coming in, will my case for greater compensation be increased?
-This is the last flight of the night, so I assume I'll be put up in a hotel. Is that true? I'm a Marriott guy - can I request a Marriott-brand hotel? Can I earn points for this stay?
-This storm might be pretty big. If flights are cancelled tomorrow, will I be put up in the hotel for a second night?
-Will my Platinum status help me in getting chosen (relative to all the others who bid $50)?
-How will the storm affect my ability to get on the next flight out (which could be late afternoon tomorrow or Friday morning)?
