Direct daily flights resuming to LaGuardia from Dayton International Airport starting Jan. 4.

After months of pressure from local business and elected officials, direct daily flights from Dayton International Airport to and from New York LaGuardia Airport will begin Jan. 4.

Delta Airlines notified Dayton Director of Aviation Terry Slaybaugh late last week. Slaybaugh said he only learned about schedule specifics from the airline over the weekend.

“For the past six months, more than 100 passengers a day have been impacted by the lack of convenient and reliable service to LaGuardia,” Slaybaugh said. “I am certain that I can speak for these passengers in thanking Delta for recognizing and resolving this issue.”

Weekday departure times from Dayton are scheduled to be 7 a.m. and arriving at 9:09 a.m. with a second departure at 4 p.m. and arriving at 5:54 p.m.

Return trips from LaGuardia are 1 p.m. with arrival at 3:12 p.m. and a second departure at 6:50 p.m. arriving at 9:10 p.m. The flights will be offered in 50- to 75-seat regional jets, Slaybaugh said.

There will be flights on weekends as well.

Slaybaugh said he’s grateful to Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Rep. Mike Turner, R-Centerville, for their work at brokering meetings between airport officials and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“Direct flights from Dayton to LaGuardia Airport mean less travel time and more economic development for the Miami Valley,” Brown said. “This is great news for the Dayton-area business community – and can help local businesses expand and hire new workers.”
