I Used to be Somebody!

Can anyone help a weekly traveler back on the wagon after a two-year break?

I maintained top-tier status on Delta from 2001 to 2010, when I took a non-travelling job for a couple of years. I just got back on the road and will be travelling non-stop for the foreseeable future, averaging a bit over 1 flight per week. For the next 8 months or so, I’ll be mostly going back and forth between New York and Atlanta every week. In the two years without travel, I have lost all status in hotel and airline programs. The one I miss the most is my (then top-tier) Platinum Skymiles status.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get back in the game as quickly as possible? My main problem is picking September as the month to start travelling again. At this rate, I won’t work my way back up to Platinum until almost the end of next year. I wanted to do the Platinum challenge, but I understand you have to hold active elite status on another airline to even start the clock.

Can anyone help with other creative ideas (I’ll be signing up for the MQM-generating SM credit cards in January)? I would love to find direct contact info of someone in the SM team who might see a newly re-engaged very frequent traveler flying out of New York and want to find a way to accelerate getting me back in the club.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Now that I’m travelling again, we’re looking forward to another big reward trip like our ATL-LAX-PPT-BOB 500,000 mile/point honeymoon. Thanks in advance FT.
