My daughter, who has traveled many, many times with us, was off to see Grandma on her own for the first time. I had gone through all the possible IROPS and other FF tips...and am told not to hover too much as she wants to do this on her own...but get the dreaded call from ATL at 9:03 for the 9:00 flight..."Daddy, the gate sign no longer says my flight!"
Arrgghh...of course it's the last flight of the day. The gate is changed while she is in the bathroom and she has sat there waiting at what is now the wrong gate.
I tell her to head to the help desk while I get on the phone to rebook. Before the PM desk can get her rebooked, though, the help desk has gotten her a new flight, and escorted her to a place I had never heard of called the "SkyZone." There she is given a cot, snacks, a small toiletries kit, and her new boarding pass. She is awoken at the proper time and given a voucher for breakfast. Nice!! I'd never heard of the SkyZone and was very happy not to have to lead her to a hotel check-in by phone.
So thanks, Delta, for taking care of my kid. I mean that both ways...sarcastically for not making sure everyone gets the last minute gate change, and heartfelt for turning a scary parent nightmare into a relatively minor annoyance.
