I flew on AS-coded, DL-operated SEA-JFK yesterday as part of a connection onto SN JFK-BRU. This was booked by the agent dragons in my company's travel office (think AC gate/lounge dragons, but with 4x the attitude). When I called said dragons to point out that the same segment with DL code was cheaper, one of them said that AS allows a 2:00 minimum connect to SN at JFK, whereas DL requires 2:30 (my scheduled connection = 2:18), so they couldn't book it. (Fair enough, but she was still a dragon about it.)
When Friday morning (3 days prior) passed without an upgrade, I knew something was amiss because there were 7 F seats still available on SEA-JFK. So I called the DL gold desk right away, where a very nice agent checked with her supervisor and said it's a known issue but there was no way to add me manually because the upgrade list for the flight was already closed (3 days out?!).
There were still 7 open seats Sunday morning (the day before), so I asked a DL agent at check-in to verify that I was on the upgrade list. She said I was, but that the list was long and the flight already oversold. When I got to the gate, there were 47 (!) names on the upgrade list, but my name appeared nowhere on it. (Seriously, I watched the monitor display the list three separate times -- it wasn't there.)
Has this happened to anyone else? There isn't much to be done now, but I raise this issue in the spirit of "traveler beware."
Also, can anyone suggest an effective tranquilizer for corporate-travel-office dragons? Thanks. :-)
