AVOD programmed to turn itself back on for commercials

This may be old news to this community but it was a first for me. On last night's flight PDX-ATL (a redeye), I turned the AVOD unit off so it would be dark and I could sleep. Unfortunately, the AVOD is programmed to TURN ITSELF BACK ON so it can play a series of commercials, then turn itself off again. While the commercials were playing, I could not turn the AVOD off. This is obviously intentional. It's these kind of games that alienate passengers in an effort to squeeze out a little bit of extra revenue. I've made this complaint to DL and encourage you to do the same if you detest these intrusive ads.
