I had an evening JFK-SEA flight booked over the weekend (and I already been upgraded to BE, so I was looking forward to the new SC at JFK).
I woke up to an automated call from PS&S that my flight would be delayed... all of 30 minutes. I had an important function the next morning, even 30 minutes would be critical, so I called PS&S back and asked if there were any flights I could switch to that would get in earlier. "No problem, there's a flight out of LGA connecting through DTW. It gets in about two hours earlier. You're confirmed and your upgrades followed you."
So I pack and grab a cab to LGA. Had to check in in at the desk, but Pre was open with no line. From the cab to airside took 5 minutes. Flight out of LGA was slightly delayed due to the inbound plane, but no problem I had an hour in DTW. We board and the pilot says there's weather in our flightpath and we'll be delayed another 30 minutes or so. I call up PS&S again and ask to be protected on the next DTW-SEA flight. "No problem sir, thank you for being Platinum."
We push back and then head to the penalty box. ATC isn't letting anything out due to weather, it'll be another 30 minutes says the pilot. He turned the engines and the seat belt sign off. The crew immediately passed around water in Y and brought the requested drinks to F. I again called PS&S asking to be confirmed on the later flight, and the agent was happy to help.
We soon took off and made it to DTW with plenty of time. The inbound was again late, but the GA kept us up-to-date. I managed to grab the last upgrade. The crew on the DTW-SEA flight was fantastic, and at the the end of the flight leader went to everyone in F and thanked us for our business.
So long story short, I got in the same time as my original non-stop, without the JFK SC or the BE seat and services. However, the great crews made it much less stressful.
