Delta PM for the last few years and flew DL almost exclusively, but have recently changed jobs and new employer and location is UA heavy. Travel is 50/50 domestic and intl. I am already at GM for next year but have to finish scheduling travel for the remainder of the year. Here are my options:
a) Try and force enough DL flights to maintain PM and then perform a status match challenge sometime in 2013 when I can easily complete the challenge. This continues PM status and the choice bonus miles but I probably won't see much of the upgrade benefits if flying UA. I might not be able to start a good match run until 2Q. This also assumes the match program will still be available next year. The other real benefit I would lose is award redeposit benefits for my 500k award miles I plan on digging into next year.
b) Use my known travel to start the UA match immediately, remain DL GM, and start accumulating miles and upgrades on the new program.
