I know this thread is about 4 months premature, but things seem a little slow around here.
I'm an Atlanta-based Gold Medallion with DL Reserve AMEX. I fly mostly domestic with an occasional trip to Europe in there. My travel is probably 2/3 business and 1/3 personal. My business travel is sporadic and often times last minute. My frequent destinations include: SFO, BWI, BOS, ELP, BNA, MEM, IAD, HOU, FLL, and PHX. The upside of last minute travel is a decent amount of K+ fares and occasional FCM.
Go for Platinum - with MQD coming online soon, I figure I might as well get as my status as high as possible as fast as possible before DL cuts additional benefits and take advantage of MQD knocking some folks down. I am also planning an award trip for my wife and I to Europe in 2014 so award redeposit would be nice.
Stay Gold - rolling over 20k - 24k MQM sounds pretty enticing for the purpose of maintaining status long-term and would keep me from spending money on potentially useless benefits, such as SWU's.
My business travel could drastically increase or decrease at any time. I'm not sure where that plays into the debate. If my business travel stops, being a PM isn't worth a whole lot and I will likely fall to SM. On the other hand, if I stay GM this year, I can probably maintain GM for a while with rollover.
