I'm looking at an offer I got to upgrade my (Delta branded) American Express card to a Platinum account that costs $150/year. By doing so, I get 15,000 Skymiles (and 5,000 Medallion Qualification Miles).
I see that the normal price to purchase that many miles is around $500. However, I also seem to recall having seen Delta promotions in the recent past where you could buy miles and they would triple your purchase - that would make the cost of the miles under both promotions roughly the same.
If my memory is correct, I'd rather wait for a similar promotion to come along and not hassle with a credit card upgrade (that I'd probably downgrade in a year anyway - I don't agree with annual fee-based credit cards).
So, is this deal really that good? Or should I be reading these forums to find much better deals?
(Related question - the 5,000 MQM expire after a year... but that does NOT mean I lose any of those 15,000 miles, does it? - don't really care about MQM perks myself)
