08-12-2013 IAD-ATL-PDX: starting at least an hour before my connecting flight out of ATL was due to board (maybe more, I was in-flight, exercising my way thru Terminal B, or riding the Fly Train), the upgrade list disappeared from the Delta App and from the gate screens to be replaced by an offer to sell standby upgrades to Business for $225 (if you had a fare type indicated on the boarding pass). Well, according to the (now absent) upgrade list there had been something like 32 of us FF's in line for exactly zero available seats up front. Yet, at boarding I observed at least 2 pass. get upgrades. No-shows opening up I suppose, but why drop the list? Or did they pay what amounts to ~$50/hour to sit in a bigger seat? Would anyone go for the paid upgrade with zero availability? And I would bet paid upgrades jump the line.
