Today I tried redeeming a roundtrip skymiles award ticket to Siberia in economy DUS-SVO-TOF (Tomsk, Russia), which according to the award chart should be considered an intra-Europe routing that prices at 25k skymiles.
Well, the ticket priced at 80K miles (the Europe-N.Asia price) b/c Siberia, Russia is in Northern Asia, despite what the Delta award chart indicates.
I escalated the matter and a friendly customer care supervisor called back saying that "after checking google and the pulse on the internet, the rest of the world considers Siberia part of Asia"
Has anyone had better luck than I did with award tickets on SU to points east of the Urals? My other questions is whether it is possible to redeem US-Siberia through Moscow at the N.America-N.Asia rate or will the ticket be split into 2 as N.America-Europe/Europe-N.Asia since it is not a pacific routing?
