I'm planning a trip to Japan in mid/late March, and am trying to determine the most comfortable way there without sacrificing too many points. I have about 230k skymiles, around 90k Amex MR points, and 10k Chase UR points available. I either want a lie-flat seat, or to ride in an A380.
Looking on DL's site, flying SFO-LAX/MSP/SLC-NRT would cost around 230k miles. Flying out of LAX seems to shave off 60k miles, so I'm not opposed to buying a cheap SFO-LAX ticket or using my Chase points to save on some miles.
I see that KE flies A380s from LAX-ICN, so I'm wondering if I can somehow do LAX-ICN-NRT on an DL award ticket. So far, though, I haven't been able to find any award flights on their A380s.
Is LAX-NRT my best option?
