I know many FF appreciate the free cocktails when UG & in SkyClubs, and I suspect might even be the primary reason for DYKWIA behavior for missed UG. I enjoy my occasional UGs, too, but unless the flight has meal service and/or IFE, there isn't a huge difference from EC and I can take it or leave it.
I don't drink at all, so the free flowing premium booze isn't a perk for me. It seems most feel the primary value of SC is the open bar - it's tangible bang for the buck. So, is SC membership really worth it for sober folks? I typically arrive early for flights, and if I have a connection, I like to schedule 90-120mins between. I drink coffee & Dr. Pepper like it's going out of style, and on travel days will end up having at least 1 meal in transit (at the food court, gate or in flight). I sometimes do a little bit of work.
From what I've read, most clubs aren't really significantly more low-key and quiet than at the gate. I had a delay over the weekend - though I didn't bother with a 1 day pass, I considered hanging out in the SC, but wasn't sure even that was worth it for the 2 hour delay. Would a SC membership be worth just having an exclusive/comfortable/quiet/etc place to kill time whilst waiting at the airport?
