Gifted Gold Medallion?

I have a question about a gifted gold medallion my father just gave me. It looks like it expires on Feb 28, but then renews on March 1. Is that just the carryover from 2012 happening in 2013, and if so, is the experience diminished if you are on a "rollover" status?

Also, now that I'm asking questions, is there anything that a gifted gold doesn't get that a regular gold would? Thanks for all of the answers!
