What is the dollar/SkyMile ratio that makes it worth getting an award ticket?

Hi all,

I have 250+k SkyMiles but I have only used them once. I want to use them again, but I want to make sure that I do it wisely. So I turn to the forums' collective wisdom :-) For a particular ticket, after reducing the taxes and fees that I would need to pay for the corresponding award ticket, what should be the ratio of the remaining price to the SkyMiles spent for it to make sense to get the award ticket?

Obviously, I am looking for a ballpark number. I am sure this kind of question has been answered but I haven't been able to find it on the forum despite searching extensively.

Customs from Toronto to DTW, JFK, or ATL

Looking at flights from Toronto, Ontario (possibly London Ontario) to Europe connecting through either DTW, JFK, or ATL.

Do you clear customer in Canada and arrive as a domestic flight? My past experiences in ATL and JFK have been less than stellar as far as clearing customers and the scheduled layover is fairly short.

VCE Sky Priority

We'll be disembarking a cruise in Venice and flying VCE->JFK in Delta One. Can anyone tell me if there are sky priority check-in and security lanes at VCE? I'm not finding much info online, and I've heard the airport is crowded with long lines on cruise days.

Can't find rental car resv. on Delta app

I reserved a car through the Delta website. It shows up under My Trips on the website, but it doesn't show up on the app. Is that normal?

Edit to note: It can't find it with the Find My Trip function in the app either. However, that does work on the website.

Had to be on the west coast for business this coming week so I decided to come out a bit early and bring along the wife. We were seated 1A/1B on the 7AM JFK-SFO the other morning and I had a pretty bad experience. I sat down, and immediately noticed that the IFE remote wasn't working. Not only that the wires were pulled out of the bottom and whole remote looked like a hazard. While not the biggest deal, this certainly makes it a lot more difficult to enjoy your entertainment when you have to stretch to select what you want to watch, volume, play, etc. Second issue was a bigger one. It was raining in JFK which delayed us a bit and I totally understand that. My issue though was every time the plane moved while on the Tarmac a stream of water would fall straight down my back and onto my seat. I got quite wet 3 times before take off and sat in wet clothing for the first 2 hours of the flight. The FA attempted to tape a napkin onto the loose panel which obviously didn't work. I notified delta via Twitter while we were delayed and they said to take it up with the crew. I specifically mentioned compensation to the crew as instructed by delta and twice was told they would follow up and never did. I'm also pretty sure they didn't note the issue with the IFE remote so that maintenance could take care of it.

I was on a paid ticket (C class refundable) and have been pretty loyal to delta. I'm not the biggest spender, but so far this year I'm at 25k+. What do you think is fair compensation for the above issues? If just IFE i thought 10k skypesos...with the other issue I'm at significantly more.

NCE Nice FR T2 meeting point

Tomorrow morning I'm dropping someone off at T1 and then heading over to T2 to pick up a friend. Is there a good landside meeting point? I'm assuming I can stand at some sort of arrivals area, but in case I can't get there in time I want a back up point.

Also, can anyone tell me where to short term park for 1-2 hours outside T1?

Questions re NCE-JFK delay and compensation

I was scheduled to deposit my father at airport for flight at NCE tomorrow morning. He is going NCE-JFK-ATL-GNV on DL. Because NCE-JFK departure is now delayed from 11:35 AM to 4 PM, he will miss his connection to ATL and have to overnight in JFK and ultimately not arrive at destination until next day, approx 12 hours late (best case scenario). I believe he is eligible for EU261/2004 600 euro compensation and a hotel and dinner/breakfast vouchers at minimum (assuming the delay is not weather related, etc). How does he go about requesting compensation? He is older and, while smart and savvy, not as assertive as he used to be. I would like to provide him with step by step instructions.

I should add a few things: 1) this is an award ticket; 2) he has no status on airline.

Inflight compensation

Due to an issue on a Delta flight overnight last night, my partner - who doesn't have SkyMiles - was given $150 compensation, which he received in an email (Delta Inflight Service Receipt) today. I was told I'd get 15k miles. My email was never taken but rather simply my SkyMiles number. Should I also have received an inflight service receipt? I am a bit nervous since I never did. If not, does anyone have any idea how long it might be before these miles are posted?

DL Pajamas

Got PJs in D1 today DTW -> PVG (Upper deck on the 747!)

This was a first for me. They're nice! Long sleeve zip up cotton top with comfy full length stretchy pants with a draw string. In a nice cotton baggie.

Two sizes were availible, S/M and L/XL.

Anyone seen these before?

International Economy Premium Seat Question

Apologize if this has been answered before, a few minute search did not yield.

So my father will be traveling from DTW to MUC this week on a 767-400. I know that myself as a medallion can pick a "premium" seat (not C+) at booking, while he must pay $45.00.

My question: Is there any window where selection of these "premium" seats are free? Say T-48? What happens if the "premium" seats go unsold as the departure date gets close.r

I may go ahead and purchase it for him for more leg room, but wanted to be sure there was no way to get for free first.

Edit: V fare if it matters.

SDS clears before upgrade?

I tried searching, I swear. I just lost out an upgrade because they cleared a SDS when I was #1 on the list.

Agent said that's how it goes, and it's a 45 minute flight, so I didn't question or push and I don't care beyond the educational value.

So I guess goes a (assumed) firt class SDS trump the upgrade list?

Flew YXE-MSP today 7/31/2016 on DL 3760. At least 6 medallions on F upgrade list. 1 empty F seat at T-30. The GA boards FC then two uniformed FAs show up at the gate, there is tons of typing (2-3 min worth, during which time boarding was held) and the FAs are send down the jetbridge before sky priority boarding is called. One FA sitting in first and one in C+. Given that these seats were vacant right up until the Ga started boarding I think there is a good probability of shenanigans here, and since they were in those seats before I even had a chance to board, YBYL doesn't even apply. Anyone with powers care to confirm/refute? 2D is the seat in question.

"equipment shortages" at EDI?

flew EDI-JFK in D1 today and was told that there were no comforters available for us due to "equipment shortages" at EDI. we also had to share menus at boarding, among other random unstocked and unavailable items. one crew member said it was because it was a new route, and wasn't sure when it would be remedied.

anyone heard of anything like this before? it was a bit disappointing to hear people talking about these westin comforters for weeks only to discover the dinky red DL blankets when we boarded.

Delta Amex 45,000 Miles / 15,000 MQM Sign Up

I missed the 60K / 10,000 MQM offer from earlier, but today in the mail received a 45K / 15,000 MQM offer. Less base miles, but the MQM are more valuable to me personally, I may take this.

Does anyone know how long after the spend requirement is met for the MQM's to post? Is it after you pay your first bill? I thought I heard of someone getting them almost instantly...

Mco based parking q

This isn't specific to delta so mods move if needed but know there are a bunch of mco based delta loyalists here.

My q is where do you park at airport? I've been using north lot but have become increasingly frustrated with wait for buses and it goes against my nature to not take advantage of some other lots that have frequent Parker programs but not sure if I would be trading one devil for another. Anyone use any of the Orlando off parking lots and have any good/bad feedback on them?

Delta Issues

Been having issues trying to make a reservation online since last night. Every time I try to make a reservation I get all the way to the point where I enter my CC information and buy the fare but then this error returns:

We're sorry. The fare for the flights you selected is no longer available. Please search again to view and select alternate flights. If you continue to experience problems, please call the Delta Reservation Sales desk at 1-800-221-1212. If you're outside of the U.S., please contact your country's Delta Reservation Sales office.. #3006R

I then tried calling this morning but this number is not working and every other number I try from the Delta website is not working.

Anyone else having any issues or what is going on here?

On a flight tomorrow GSP to ATL - ATL to PDX...PM

Got assigned an exit row on the ATL to PDX flight....called in this morning to make sure I am removed from the C+ upgrade to a middle seat.

In the process of that happening Delta IT kicks me out of C+ on my GSP flight and puts me in Economy....Delta phone agent has no explanation for that. I have lost my E+ upgrade.

So guys tread lightly when dealing with Delta IT/Phone.
