options for Skymiles reward ticket question

I have just over 25k Skymiles, enough for a flight, however the 25K
flights are very limited. I checked almost every destination (close and far)
and looks like Washington DC only good option for August. I use to own
the Amex Delta Gold Card two years ago where you could use points to help
pay the flights. It was a bit more flexible as you did not have to hunt for a
25k reward flight. Anyone tried to find ways to get more flights available?
I did think about going back to the Amex Delta Gold card, but I wonder if
you get the signup bonus (30k) if you are a previous member and the annual
fee waived? I may call them. I do wish Delta offered more flights for the 25k
reward.
