Hello Flyers,

I am taking my family to Switzerland this summer. Flights from BOS-ZRH are currently around $1300 in economy class. Is this fare likely to decrease or should I buy now? I can't find a prediction on any website.

Thanks for your input.

Is 1 hrl 15 minutes layover sufficient in AMS?

Hello,

The title says it all. I am considering a flight from BOS-AMS that will give me only 1 hour, 15 minutes to make another flight to ZRH. Is this enough time?

Thanks for your help.

Where to Go On Delta?

Guys be gentle I am a rookie to this. I am going to do a MR a bit early this year because I want to hit platinum. I am looking to book a flight on the Delta website and earn 10k to 15k MQM's. I have read all of the rules and KLM, AF, ect, and literally a bit overwhelmed.

Here is what I am looking for:

1) Destination that uses comfortable aircraft. This will be less than 24 hours at the destination, and I am 6' 2"
2) Easy customs. I have never flown out of the US, so I am clueless about the processes, so I need somewhere where it will be easy.
3) To be able to see sights near the airport. I will likely get a hotel near the airport, but I would like to see a bit of the destination.

Where to go???

Hi Gang, hoping I can get some help here.

I have ~300K dormant SkyMiles, which I'd like to begin using up - in part on car rentals. Am I able to do this without a current American Express card?

I am not able to get anywhere on the SkyMiles website/marketplace - anyone have a link or some feedback on this? Thanks!

My inlaws need to fly to either Great Falls, Montana or Calgary, Alberta for a funeral this Friday coming back on Monday. They would leave from SNA.

Right now frequent flier tickets are pricing at 60,000 per ticket on Delta for economy.

Does anyone have any creative routing that could get them there cheaper than 60,000 per ticket on Delta or partner?

Thanks in advance

as fyi, regular flights are pricing out at $700 / $900 per and hence the desire to use frequent flier miles.

When I went to check to see how many MQM's I needed to keep my little status I realized they were all gone as of Jan first, and my trip to Mexico next month would not let me keep it for another year. Sigh. I thought it rolled over at the end of Feb :( but I digress.
As much as everyone .....es about silver status I loved it, though I had nothing to compare it to! I mean I got free checked bags/(now bag), I never had to sit in the back of the bus, and I did get a few upgrades!
This trip to Mexico will be my last flight as an FO and then I will go back to just being a skymiles member :( Well, it was good while it lasted. So people enjoy what you have!

I recently booked PEK-NRT-SIN but because I was not on my normal computer, I did not have the option to print my itiniery, and I did not take note of the booking ref either.

I did not get a confirmation email, although I believe my account has been debited (will take another 24hrs to show up).

I know my flight time and dates, so I won't miss my flight, but I want paper/email copies of my booking for safekeeping.

What can I do?

Delta AMEX screwing me

HI guys,

I applied for the delta amex platinum with a promo link, 25k on first purchase, 10k after a 3,000 dollar spend in a few months.

My wife applied, same link same day.

We get our cards, call to activate and I check on the phone to make sure I have the promo. They say no to me....then they say its not a real link
I however, being a wise flyertalker, have saved all screenshots of said offer and fax them over...so I am told to wait 3 days, then 15 days, now 8 weeks for a "resolution"....pretty dubious as the 35k deal is what i contracted for! I am now also facing the $150 annual fee THIS month, and having to make the 3k spend this month before the terms 'expire' even though I have not been confirmed the terms.....no one else will help me as 'resolution pending' is noted on my account...

my wife called on reciept of her card, got same BS story, showed them the link and instantly was guarenteed the offer....why they cant do this for me, I have no idea. My wife has the points now and I am still waiting like an idiot...

is there ANYTHING I can do???

Disadvantages of booking DL metal with KL number/stock?

$

A friend, an AS MVP Gold, is looking to book SEA-DTW-LHR. On DL, it would book as DL 18, a "direct" flight where she would be cheated out of miles for the DTW stop.

She can book the exact same flights instead as two separate KL flight numbers, which would force the booking onto KL ticket stock as well (and get her full miles)

- What are the downsides of booking a DL metal flight on KL ticket stock?
- Would her MVP Gold status get the same recognition it would on a Delta ticket?
- Could she still buy discounted Economy Comfort? Would there be any difference in the ease of buying EC?
- Any other gotchas to keep in mind?

I tried to call the Diamond line to understand this situation, but the agent was kind of rude and brushed me off without explaining things thoroughly ("well, if you really want to understand the differences, you'd have to go through agent training").

Any experience/thoughts/advice?

*footnote: normally I'd use multi-city to split apart the DL 18 reservation, but that's not possible in this case since it will be booked through a corporate travel tool.

Delta & TSA Pre-Check

I'm interested in getting TSA Pre-Check to make life easier at the airport. I see that you first need the invite from the participating airlines, of which Delta is one. Does this invite come from Delta directly? And is Delta only sending invites to certain Medallion levels (Diamonds/Platinums or just Diamonds) or are they extendeding the invite down to Gold and Silvers as well?

EDIT: I do know you can also get TSA Pre-Check after being cleared for Global Entry. However, I haven't traveled internationally in over four years, don't forsee doing any frequent international travel in the next few years (maybe one or two trips in the next couple years). I also do know military members with proper ID Cards are automatically eligible to use Pre-Check, but it's only at certain airports.

advice on MQMs for cancelled flight

Dear FT Members,
I am hoping that you might be able to advise me on a disagreement that I am having with DL.

A few weeks ago, my DL flight was cancelled because of a problem with the crew. I was rebooked by DL on another airline to my destination city.

When my flight activity was posted, I was credited with miles for the original flight that I had purchased on DL, but did not take because it was cancelled.
In fact, the rebooked flight that I had to take was almost 33% longer because I had to connect through the other airline's hub.

I wrote to DL and requested MQMs for the distance that I actually had to travel because of the rebooking. But DL refused, saying they would only credit me for my original booking with them. Instead they gave me 1,000 bonus miles (which, of course, are not MQMs).

I find this unfair. But I was curious if any of you think that I have sufficient grounds to go back and argue that I should receive credits for the miles I actually had to fly.

Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.

yet another upgrade rant...

DL 3421 dtw to cvg on 1/17 - no G 8 days out, no V at 6, 5, 3 day window, yet it is F9, P9, A9. DL is selling upgrades to tickets purchased today@ $39 additional charge. Yes, I know this is happening, but I've never seen NO upgrades at all. If this is the 2013 trend I am very worried.

Hour and a half delay that wasn't weather or mechanical

Flight 5012 DTW to SAT. Initially asked for 3 volunteers due to oversold flight (I think that was what was said). Announced volunteers not needed and boarding began. No upgrade for me so I was hanging back while pre-boards and first were boarding. Then noticed Springfield on the monitor. People asked and gate agents told us we were headed to San Antonio - don't worry... The guy next to me said he heard that we were overweight and there were strong head winds so would be stopping in Springfield for more fuel. (What?) Waited and waited and waited until finally the gate agent came on board and asked for 12 VOLUNTEERS to take a later flight because we were overweight and the offer was $600 in flight credit. I was intrigued so decided to get off the plane and see what my options were. So did many others and the gate area was chaotic with people cutting in in front of others (one couple interuppted others to ask if they could get their noon flight back if they took the offer). Decided it was too crazy and asked for my original boarding pass back to get back on the plane. Had to wait for a red coat. An hour and a half later, we left. Why it took an hour and a half to figure this all out, I'll never know....

Skymiles rules changes for 2013 are here (at delta.com updates, details inside)

$

Found it online during a search 3 minutes ago...(instead of "get the popcorn..." I decided to put the note "let's see"- IMHO there are pros and cons in changes)

Summary-
(a) dollar spending will come effective in 2014, with an option to meet them through amex.
This rule Seems to apply only for US based members (excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands).
(b) some changes to certain fare class fares (see M fare rules below- no more 50% MQM bonus, but see also J/F bonuses increase to 100% MQM).
(c) The link to additional details on dollar spending (here) is not working on the updates news at this time, but based on the range published seems to at 10 cents a mile if one fly only the minimum miles per qualification (I would guess by the range of dollar spending published, see also gj83 post below. But, the more you fly the lower the actual cost per mqm may be for you).
(d) rollover remains

my initial thoughts:
I actually find the changes interesting (and that is a positive note)--Some changes seem good, some are not as good. So far, I do see more positive than negative.
It seems that pure mileage runners may have a "bump", but even that depends on the amount of MR/way in which they budget it. In fact, if one conducts alot of MR's they would have no problem maintaining (and even increasing) status.

After reading the "news and updates", I do find that some points may require a little clarification (I also added/linked o other questions that were raised in the thread, so it can be used as a list of F.A.Q.- if anyone wants to scan through the thread and collect the rest of the F.A.Q's I can add them here as well, or a mod can take over the post and do that):

1. I can't tell which airline partner earnings are changing from reviewing the website. (aside from the clarification for for certain partners below, which may be the only changes). Can anyone verify/clarify on that?
2. In addition, I do see some interesting questions raised below ( e.g. meeting MQM and not meeting MQD, what would be the rollover? e.g. if one earned 55,000 MQM but made the MQD for silver, would they roll 30,000 MQM? see also here and here,)
3. spending on delta: how would (if any) spending with JV flights, and skyteam partners count? would codeshare flights count towards spending? would it matter if it is a delta coded ticket (006xxx) or a different airline coding (e.g. 057xxxx)
in fact, there are few additional scenarios here [some examples, there are initial 8 different options on the basis of 2*2*2 options...(flying DL metal/other metal)*(flying DL tkt number/other)*(flying DL flight #/other airline's flight #)]:

John purchase 057 tkt flying on DL metal.
Jane purchase 055 tkt flying AZ metal on a DL codeshare number
Jin purchase 006 tkt flying on AF/KL metal on DL codeshare number,
Jim purchase 006 tkt flying on DL metal (assuming this one is counted),
and there are additional options (e.g. using 006 tkt to fly AF JV tkt with a segment that is on AZ, etc.)
see also sd1024 question about Alaska's flights

4. someone will ask it at some point- would $ spending thresholds rollover?

5. Vouchers: Would VDB or choice benefits vouchers used for to purchase tickts apply to the dollar threshold? (see BamaGirl's posting)

Request from fellow FT members: please PLEASE let's try keeping the discussion on-topic. We all have strong 'feelings' about it, but it would allow us and the official reps. to have a real Q&A discussion

Earning Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs)
Beginning March 1, 2013, the MQMs SkyMiles members earn on select fare classes will change:
For Delta-marketed flights, the MQM bonus for First/Business F and J fare classes will double from 50% to 100%, and Economy M fare class will no longer earn a 50% MQM bonus. This change will apply to tickets purchased on or after March 1, 2013.
The above changes also will apply to F-, J- and M-equivalent fare-class tickets on Aeromexico-, Air France-KLM-, Alaska-, Alitalia-, and Virgin Australia-marketed flights. This change will apply to travel flown on or after March 1, 2013.
The MQMs you earn on certain other partner-marketed flights will adjust for travel flown on or after March 1, 2013. Visit delta.com/partnerairlines for details by carrier.
Please note that the way you currently earn redeemable miles is not changing.
Learn more about earning MQMs on Delta- and partner-marketed flights.
Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) - Coming Next Year
Beginning January 1, 2014, SkyMiles members residing in the United States (excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) will qualify for Medallion status based on an additional threshold – the member’s annual spending with Delta, which will be measured by Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs). Members must also meet the existing Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) qualification criteria.
The threshold ranges from $2,500-$12,500 MQDs depending on Medallion level.
Alternatively, Delta SkyMiles Credit Cardmembers can be waived from the new Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) requirement if they make at least $25,000 in Eligible Purchases within the calendar year.

upgrade observation

Flying a 767 Atl-Las........36+ ppl on upgrade list......I'm DM and was #2........on a SDC.......I boarded and door closed. The seat next to me stayed empty, in FC. I was very surprised cause of the huge UG list. Then a FA brought up a passenger from coach to fill the seat. I figured he was the guy at the cutoff of the UG list. A GM or FO.......but no.......he was an employee of another airline. Didn't bother me at all. Im just curious why this was done instead of the next person on the UG list.

Again, I got my UG, so no complaints from me. Just an observation and was curious about it.
The FA's were all fantastic by the way :)

Hello,

I don't have any availability tool (I don't fly enough to subscribe). Can anybody check for me if the following flights would be available for an upgrade with miles from a Q fare?

On April 1st, 2013:
DL1154 LAX to ATL
DL5458 ATL to YYZ

Thanks.

Booking through "ski.com" 25% MQMs & RDMs

A friend booked a ski trip for me through ski.com, including flights ATL-SLC-ATL. Knowing that Delta does not always give full MQMs & RDMs, nor upgrades for certain flights booked through travel agents, I called the DL Plat line to ensure that I'd receive full mileage and upgrade priority. The fare showed "U" class. I spoke to the Platinum line and they assured me that I'd receive my normal upgrade priority and MQMs/RDMs. I told them if that wasn't the case to please let me know and I'd cancel the "ski.com" tix and rebook directly on DL.com, but I was assured that this would not be an issue.

The flights were 1/10 - 1/15. I received upgrades on both legs, so I figured all was fine. This morning, my account shows only 397 miles per leg instead of the 2+K miles per leg.

I called the Plat desk and also a supervisor there. they say that there's nothing that can be done. My itineraries showed "U" class with no notifications about lower mileage earning.

I sent a note via DL.com stating the facts with no emotion asking for:
(1) Full MQMs and RDMs on the flights
(2) Training for DL phone reps to know the proper answers
(3) A note or field on the "My Itineraries" section to show any flights that will not receive full mileage credit.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Any other things I should do here? I know that I'm probably hosed...

Question about EC and boarding

$

Hi everyone - newbie here to the forums but I can't seem to get a definitive answer with google :)

This month, I'll be going MSP-LAS. I'm 6'4" so I paid extra and went with an EC seat. I'm trying to decide what to do with my baggage - whether to check it in or gamble with gate lice and fight for a bin and carry it on. Does EC allow you to use the SkyPriority lane and board with Zone 1? The flight I'm on is a 767-300. Just wondering how to go about the least baggage hassle.

Thanks!

Delta.com bug? EC seats: "passenger ineligible"

$

I tried searching in the threads about the new Delta website, didn't find it, but if it was mentioned before, sorry:

Does anyone have issues with selecting EC seats on the Delta website? This has happened to me on 2 (out of 2) itineraries week (both domestic and intl). Go in, EC wide open, select seat, and then get a pop-up "passenger not eligible for Economy comfort". Not even an option to buy - just "not eligible".

Logged in, itins are all ticketed properly, it even says on the right hand side of the seat map that little ad for EC that my cost is "FREE".

Oddly, using the iphone app, no issues changing to EC seats and these changes then stick on the website as well.
