Routing help needed

$

I am trying to go from ERI to either LBB or MAF. I've only done a couple of cursory looks but I can't find anything into either airport. I'm finding it hard to believe there are no connections from Salt Lake City. Does anybody have any suggestions on routing? From what I see so far I can take Delta as far as Dallas then have to switch to American. However I thought I would try the experts here as I would like to get the whole route on Delta if possible. Dates of travel our March 22-25.

Does Delta not back up DM's on alternate flights any longer?

A colleague just called from Detroit. They had to return to the gate because of a MX issue. He called the DM line and asked to be backed up on the next flight, the agent said they didn't do that any longer.

And it's actually an enhancement.

Hawaii to Southeast Asia. Low economy awards are 25k each way (down from 40k) and Low BE awards are 40k each way (down from 60k).

Question about "nested" round trips

I recognize this is probably a noob question, but I couldn't find an answer quickly. Apologies if it's been done to death. I haven't had to look a this before.

Is it legal for me to buy two round trips, one AAA-BBB and one BBB-CCC, which would schedule like this?

AAA-BBB
BBB-CCC
CCC-BBB
BBB-AAA

It's a lot cheaper than buying AAA-CCC round-trip.

Who else misses US Helicopter (Delta codeshare partner)?

Was walking along the East River last night and couldn't help but feel a little sad as I passed TSS (East 34th St Heliport). For those who don't know, US Helicopter used to operate out of this heliport (as well as JRB, the Wall St heliport) as an airport shuttle. You could get to/from JFK in 7 minutes, for $99 - $159.

I used to work at 42nd and Madison; walking to the heliport was a snap, and made all my business and weekend travel a delight instead of a hassle (now that I actually live in the area, I miss it even more!). I miss getting to go through TSA in 30 seconds. I miss the check-in agent who would recognize me every time I walked in and have my boarding pass ready within seconds. I miss getting 750 MQMs for the 7-minute flight. I miss being personally greeted by the company's president after I made my mark as a frequent customer. I miss the incredibly comfortable chairs in the boarding area.

Sigh. I still think someone could make this concept work.

PS -- Was USH the only operation to ever have TSA security in Manhattan (does the westside cruise terminal use TSA agents)?

Sky Club Membership as a Gift

Hi Folks,

My Dad's 60th birthday is right around the corner and I've been thinking about getting him a membership to the Sky Club, but I'm a United Flyer so I'm not sure how everything works over on DL's side.

Mainly, is there a way to give a membership as a gift, and what's the best way to go about it? He's a Million Miler, and I think that gives him lifetime Silver, so I'm not sure if that entitles him to any special pricing, or if I'd even be entitled to it if I was the one purchasing.

Naturally, since it's a gift, I don't think any CC offers would be helpful, but any money saving moves would be considered. (I know US Airways occasionally offers memberships for $299, so that's a trick a lot of UA flyers use as it gives reciprocal access).

FWIW, he probably flies around 40K annually, mostly domestic, with 2-3 trips international, all on DL or SkyTeam.

Thanks!

Didn't see this posted... Pinnacle has apparently been having computer issues and all their flights are delayed until resolved.

Could have potentially lost KOA-LAX SWU upgrade to paid gate upgrades

This is just an FYI. Flew KOA-LAX on a two-person B-fare itinerary in early January. Both of us were waitlisted for SWU upgrade. First time I had flown to/from KOA, so didn't realize how slow security, etc. would be. When checking luggage ~1.5 hours in advance, asked agent about status of SWU request. Was told to check with GA.

Took nearly ~1 hr to get through TSA and then the Hawaiian agricultural check. Got to gate agent about ~35 mins before departure, and they were about to start boarding. Gave GA boarding pass and politely inquired as to status of upgrade request. Agent said something to the effect of "Great! I just need your credit card for the 2 * $225 charge. We're overbooked in coach." (They were asking for bump volunteers at the check-in kiosks.) What?? Told agent was waitlisted for SWU. GA said "Oh... let me look at this...". GA then said something to the effect of "since we don't do upgrades to/from Hawaii, I didn't think to check the upgrade list". My companion witnessed this.

Really? The GA would have sold the $225 upgrades to a random person before processing my SWU request? I was somewhat upset, especially since there were no longer any seats next to each other (and the seat map indicated there were several ~3 hours earlier). But, in the end, we got the upgrade, so I guess all was fine. But could we potentially have lost out?

Just a warning for others, since it appeared to be contract workers (not DL employees) at KOA. Lesson learned: should have gotten to the gate earlier ...

Possible to book RT with M fare out & discount econ inbound?

$

Tossing around ideas for an international trip, trying to be eligible for an upgrade with miles which requires M+ fare. Is it possible to get a round trip itin booked with an M fare going outbound, but just the standard LUT on the inbound leg? Or am I stuck booking all-M fares on both legs of the trip?

Alternatively, I've heard that on an already-booked fare, you can "opt up" and pay the difference to have your itin bumped up into the fare class you want, and perhaps get the change fee waived for this. If my family member I'm traveling with has already booked their RT fare in LUT, can they "opt up" one leg of it so we can BOTH try for an upgrade with miles, or are they only allowed to upgrade the fare entirely for all possible legs?

Hope that question makes sense. I tried to do some preliminary searching but didn't find much, particularly about upping the fare on one part of an already-booked RT trip. TYIA for any guidance!

This is f#$%#$% joke, right?

I just got this email from DL. They can't be serious????

As a valued Medallion® member, you've earned exclusive privileges with us, and we want you to be among the first to know about updates to the program.

Beginning January 1, 2014, you will earn Medallion status through a combination of miles or segments flown and your annual spending on Delta flights, which will be measured by Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs). Specifically, here's how you will qualify for Medallion status starting next year:

To Reach 2015

Medallion Status
YOU WILL NEED

25,000 MQMs
- OR -
30 MQSs

AND
$2,500 MQDs
To Reach 2015
GOLD

YOU WILL NEED

50,000 MQMs
- OR -

To Reach 2015
DIAMOND
Medallion Status
YOU WILL NEED

125,000 MQMs
- OR -
140 MQSs

AND
$12,500 MQDs

The MQDs requirement will be waived if you make at least $25,000 in Eligible Purchases in the qualification year with your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express.

In addition, beginning March 1, 2013, we will adjust the Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) you earn on select fares when flying Delta and our partner airlines. To learn more about earning MQMs, visit delta.com.

These modifications will ensure that our most valued flyers have an even more exclusive and enjoyable travel experience.

As always, thank you for your business and stay tuned for more information about MQDs.

Thinning the Ranks

Anyone care to speculate how much thinning out of the Medallion ranks will be caused by the new MQD requirement?

I personally think it will likely have minimal effect.

Lovely. I can't even check in to my flights for tomorrow.
Hopefully Delta has more time to work on everyday stuff, now they got the MQD info page out of the way.

Who is STO and why is he on the upgrade list?

So the upgrade list for a particular flight shows several passengers in the usual format: first three letters of the last name/first initial of first name.

There's one that appears just as:

STO

Is this some sort of non-rev code? I'm not that heartbroken that this one is ahead of me on the list (lowly GM and short flight), but I'm simply curious.

Thanks!

Construction at MAT

With all of the construction updates I've been giving lately, I feel like I should have a hard hat on...

FYI for all of you frequent Delta Shuttle users like myself. Delta has begun a construction project to enhance the TSA security checkpoint at New York – LaGuardia’s Marine Air Terminal. In order to complete this project in the next few months while keeping the checkpoint open at all times, arriving passengers exiting the terminal will be rerouted outside through a temporary canopy that will direct them to baggage claim and the exit. Additionally, departing passengers will be directed to enter the terminal through the main/rotunda entrance to access the ticket counters, kiosks and security checkpoint.

I just walked past the canopy myself and its fully covered and walled, so no worries about getting wet if its raining (or if it ever snows).

List your Status, MQM, and MQD for 2012

$

With the announced changes, would be great to get everyone to list their 2013 status level along with their 2012 Delta spend, how many MQM's they earned, etc. then look back and see where we all stand with MQD's.
  • 2013 Status & MQM's
  • 2012 DL/Skyteam Spend
  • Estimated MQD - subtract taxes and non DL coded/ticketed flights. Or just count it all if, given the new policy, you would have purchased it coded/ticketed differently.
  • Notes/Extra: give an idea of what the travel mostly was (i.e. domestic econ, domestic first, international econ/business, mileage runs, mix of a few, etc)

For me:
  • 2013 Status: Diamond, 128k MQMs including 12k rollover.
  • 2012 Spend: $10,625 (includes $600 in change fees)
  • Estimated MQD: 8,185 (subtracted change fees and taxes. all flights would have qualified)
  • Notes: all domestic, with one hawaii RT. 70% is on LUT fares, 25% on KQH fares, 5% on discounted first. No mileage runs, all business travel except for Hawaii. In all it was 24 round trips out of SFO/SJC mostly to midwest or east coast locations.

Based on my total spend (what counts to ME), I'm spending $0.092 per MQM. Delta will credit me for $0.071 per MQM, leaving me well short. I'll need to spend roughly 30% more per ticket in order to qualify.

MQD + MQM Results in EOL for Mileage Runs Based Medallions

$
0

Based on those who qualify via the Miles flow method for earning a medallion the new requirements of:

MQD (Qualifying Dollar spent) + MQM (Qualifying Miles)

Is going to require a minimum 10 cents qualifying mile spend on DELTA generated tickets. Dollars won't count if the ticket is issued by a Skyteam member (i.e. KLM, AF, etc..)

This will cause a thinning of the Medallion ranks based on those who've been earning medallions doing MQM runs on sLUT fares that they've been able to do for ~ 5 cents per qualifying mile or less in the past ... as that won't work anymore. They'll either need to continue doing cheap sLUT fares and double up the mileage flown ... i.e. 250K instead of 125K for a Diamond for example ... or they'll need to buy tickets of at least 10 cents per mile that get them 125K qualifying miles flown.

Basically Delta has raised the minimum effective bar of Mileage running to 10 cents per mile for someone starting out the new qualifying year.

Interesting ...

Upgrade at gate cost and fare needed?

$

Hi, looking for some help. I have searched the thread but have not found an answer. I am flying from dtw to las on 1/23 on a T fare on a 763. I am a sorry FO and expert flyer shows f9 but v0. I assume my chances of an upgrade here are poor even though there is still several empty F seats.

On to my question, how much are gate upgrades typically since it looks like they will be selling them on this route or at check in? Also, do you have to be on a K fare or higher to be eligible to purchase or will my T fare be eligible? Thanks in advance for any help.

OK, I've searched and searched. I can't find any info about stopovers on award travel. Can say a trip NYC/SLC have a 3 day stopover in RNO. Or anywhere. If someone can discuss it I'd appreciate it. Or post a link.
thanks.

First Time Platinum--Choice Benefits & maximizing SWUs?

$
0
0
Just hit PM for the first time and I'm wondering what to do about my choice benefits. A free upgrade would be nice, but the SWUs seem quite hard to use. Getting upgraded on a shorthaul domestic trip doesn't seem that enticing, and most of my transcons are work-related anyway (so they'll pay for J). On international routes, I've checked the fare buckets and I'd be paying ~$3500 to fly, for example, JFK-AMS on KL, which isn't much less than buying J outright. Are there any tips or tricks to getting the most out of SWUs? Or are there other choice benefits that have some 'hidden value' I should consider?

Thanks in advance!
